Linked accounts are connected in read-only mode. Charten can read balances to draw your net worth, and that is the whole of it — there is no way to move money from this product, for you or for anyone else.
§01Security & trust
A net-worth tracker you can audit
Most finance apps ask you to trust them. We would rather show you. Here is exactly what Charten can do with your data, what our team can do, and how you check both for yourself.
The short version
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access by Charten staff is restricted, requires the highest privilege level, is recorded, and is shown to you in your account settings — support sessions are read-only and cannot change your records. Accounts you link through Plaid are also visible to Plaid under their terms.

Your credentials
Your bank password is never ours to lose.
You authenticate with your bank through their own flow. Your banking username and password never pass through Charten and are never stored here, so a breach of our systems cannot expose them.

Our team
If someone here opens your account, you see it.
Support access is limited to the highest privilege level, has to be justified, and expires automatically. Every instance is listed in your settings with who, when, and why — and we notify you when it happens rather than waiting for you to look.

Support
Support can look. Support cannot change.
When someone from Charten views your account to help you, the session is read-only. They cannot edit a balance, add or remove an account, change your email, or unlink a bank. Not "should not" — the product refuses it.

Your data
Take it with you, or take it away.
Export everything you have ever recorded, including your full balance history, in one file. Or delete your account and it goes — we are a tracker you pay for, not an advertising business, and we do not sell your data.

The fine print
What we will not claim.
Plenty of finance apps lean on impressive-sounding security language, or imply that nobody at the company could ever look at your data. We will not, because for any app that shows you a live balance it is not true. Accounts you link are also visible to our connection provider, Plaid, under their terms. We would rather tell you that plainly than word around it.
How to verify this yourself
None of the above requires taking our word for it.
- Check who has opened your account
- Settings → Security → Account access lists every time a member of the Charten team has opened your account, with the reason and how long they were there. An empty list is the normal state.
- Take a full copy of your data
- Settings → Data export produces everything we hold about you, including every balance you have logged. Check it against what you expect to be there.
- See and end every signed-in device
- Settings → Security → Sessions shows every device signed in to your account. End any of them instantly.
